film talk though & final film

final film: I also uploaded the music/sound to soundcloud:  the different parts and structure came out naturally, but i defined them more after watching Space Odyssey and thinking of the importance of the structure in plays and books (like All My Sons which I studied at A Level) Part One This represents the amount of things there are to do in modern society, not necessarily an attack on social media and the internet, but an exploration into modern productivity. I remember seeing something quite a while ago about how there is so many more options now to do with your time, you can read, watch films, etc etc because things are a lot more accessible and you also have technology and things online, and I wanted to show how it can be overwhelming and sometimes you need a break from the developed world. The opening shot of the box establishes this as well as the shadows which i was going to make them super white and dreamy, however I decided to edit them more brown/golden-y to r

Evaluation

The process of creating my film went really well, however there were some problems that came up along the way. The first was when filming with the snow as I had a studio space out the next morning and so couldnt get the lights and stuff I needed signed off and taken out for it, so I had to rearrange that. I also had a problem with my hard drive as I had long clips for time lapses and transcoding them took a whole TB of my hard drive, filling it up. I solved this by editing the long clips into the sped up shorter ones and exported them and then deleted the longer ones as I didn't need them. From this, I will next time know that long time lapses take more room and to edit them first (which I was originally going to do anyway to speed up the final export). Another small issue/slip up I had was I transcoded my clips that were 50fps to 25fps, this was easy to fix though as the clips were short and I could transcode them again very quickly. I learnt from these experiences as next time

Editing

editing made me really excited for the outcome of my film, as I lost heart in the gaps between writing, filming, and editing, as it felt very disconnected and the visual in my head wasn't as strong anymore. Editing brought the enthusiasm back as my footage was slowly was pieced together and started actually looking like a film. Editing took quite a long time, as I had a lot of different shots that I tried out and had to organise them as well as the edit them in the order i wanted them in, also some things went wrong which gave me limited editing time and I also stayed up all night editing, which I know is really bad but i was on a roll and didn't want to stop! Also i wasn't tired anyway and my sleeping pattern was messed up from editing late the night before while my roommates were playing minecraft. While editing my three sheets on each part camera in very useful. I started by doing the introduction and the jazz track. I did the very beginning shot of the film as I

Filming process

Filming week was quite stressful as we all know, due to the snow which muddled up a lot of things that I had organised. As well as this, I had to keep in mind the aspect ratios I wanted for each part. B-Roll I found filming B-roll feels like you're doing nothing, as there is no set filming schedule if that makes sense, all you do is walk around, film something and check if off you're list, then repeat. I also always felt I didn't have enough, but had to keep in mind I was getting a lot of online footage and screen videos (which I did using powerpoint as I learnt that there is a option where you can record your screen) as well Studio The studio went really well and I liked the infinity space as it worked better than I was hoping as there was a side of me that was afraid it was all going to be shit. I also filmed some shadows which looked nice and a shot of my eyes watching a screen, which I had to reshoot while editing as it was a tad too dark. Farnham Park filming

Experimental Film Development 2

Once I had my basic ideas, I needed to develop them. I wrote out a basic overview of the narrative and also wrote down my inspirations for different segments of the idea. The idea originally came from the idea of Plato's cave which I first found out a year or so ago through a School of Life youtube video. I was discussing with my roommate about finding ideas from other materials and concepts and used this theory as an example with a room or box and then thought "wait, thats actually a pretty good idea"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWlUKJIMge4 I decided to use a strong structure for the film, as when the structure began to come out I recalled when i studied All My Sons at A-Level and also 2001 a Space Odyssey and how a structure can be used to create meaning, so i decided to develop this more and make each section more defined. As I was thinking of Space Odyssey and its use of space/beginning of earth imagery, it then led me to be reminded of the film 'Tree o
