had some grief with my light meter on my phone, was giving me some questionable readings so I guessed a few of the settings using mostly the sunny 16 rule and dont think they turned out too bad.
I also wrote down all the settings i used which was a bit of a hassle, but really glad i did. just added some paper n a pen to my camera bag. Ive noted the settings next to each photo and also added the text i wrote to differentiate the photos once developed

like how this turned out, although maybe a stop lower wouldve dialed the white out a little as they look a little overblown/over the top which doesnt rlly go in this piccy.
I like the reflection in the bottom of the frame, it gives the image a little more perspective and shooting context.
The focal point is at the top half of this image which feels weird when looking at the image on full screen - cant decide how i feel about it. Theres a lot going on in the top and not much in the bottom.
I took this image as i liked the shapes with the lines on the floor and the railing and pole going up out of frame. Also the redish circles. Additionally i liked the slug of 'cars'/luggage transporters, dont know what theyre called.
I think it was difficult to meter for this photo as it has different lighting levels, with the bottom of the frame being inside and the rest outside in full light.

umbrellas f8 1/125 |
could do with being a little less exposed again, but at least the sky has some colour. I think a stop or two less woulve added a touch more detail to the left corner of the sky and also the umbrellas. I do however like the blasting of light on the bodies. I've been wanting to take more photos with people in them but also dont want to be a creep, so i feel like i did this more in the trip.
Looking at this photo now, i quite like it. It has a decent layering to it, with the wall i was stood being peaking in at the bottom, them the array of the beach and the buildings stagging up at the back.
I love the effect of the people &umbrellas in this photo, it has a copy paste feel to it and also adds to the photos interest level as there is plenty to look at and discover. My faves in particular are the three backs together in the bottom left and also the lonely towel and bag - presumably someones left to go swim. I also like the many people stood about at the edge of the sea, it has a repetition to it that looks nice.
 |
desiree f/8 1/125 |
desiree sun bathing lol. happy bc its in focus. bc the camera ive been using hasnt got a working focus ghost image. using a high f stop def helped and is smthn i use when shooting now. the image still has a nice depth of field to it with the stone wall at the back.
 |
sea f16 1/125 |
wish it wasnt over exposed ! however... i think the sun blowing out the skyline is interesting in a way... or Could Be interesting... it amplifies the rocks at the very back kinda nicely due to the contrast of light and dark..
Wish the woman in the foreground was facing the sea dont know why she had to turn like that but whatever..
When taking this image i liked the stacking of backs to the camera.. I think i should maybe use some of my photos as painting insp as i think painting the backs of people like this on a coloured background might be something..
I think taking photos of people can feel invasive, and i think taking images of people with their backs to the camera kinda makes it feel less creepy, but also at the same time gives it some certain quality and character that I think im liking.
 |
buildings f16 1/125 |
I love the angle of this photo. Again its very busy, which sometimes works against an image, especially if you want a particular thing to be the focus of the image, e.g when ive taken photos of street signs ive found buildings in the background and general detail it can merge into one and not make a nice image.
The balancing of levels is nice. The people are all low except one guy who shoots up and seems almost as tall as the buildings due to the low angle. He compliments the many other vertical lines in the photo created by the trees and umbrellas.
The dark sand also adds a nice pooling shape at the bottom of the frame

not bad. little overexposed i feel
 |
cliff f11 1/250 |
again when taking this photo was very much thinking of the sections created by the sky and cliff and concrete. Wouldve been nice if the guy wasnt partially covered by the plant, but there wasnt much i could do about that. The plants do add a nice touch to the foreground tho so i guess ill let it slide ahha.
The colour palette in this also works nicely together, with the blue bollards mirroring the blueness of the sky and the green plants being a similar tone to the dusty looking cliff.
candelaria
 |
sunflowers f16 1/250 |
wanted to capture the sunflowers, which were a bit far away, but i think the structuring of this picture saves it. lines and lines whats not to like. yellow and blue go very nicely and the street light fits perfectly against the space left in the sky. It also lines up perfectly with the side of the building so win win.
 |
chairs f11 1/250 |
like how the glass barrier creates a framing for the sea. is it a nice view or decorative paintings? who knows.
also like the glow of the light on the tables. exposure is hard bc sometimes over or under exposure works well with the photo depending on what youre shooting. theres some images i dont like over exposed and some where im glad that they are.
i like the detail of the unbrealla(s?) wrapped up. a nice touch, probably says something and has some sort of symbolism in it somewhere but i cant put my finger on it. I think it just has a bit of presence that adds to the photo. the tables and chairs are all empty, but the umbrella being wrapped up feels more intentional ??? idk whatever
 |
sea f16 1/250 |
was so windy this day dont know how this woman was sat here, i nearly got blown away just trying to take this photo i swearr...
I like the glow of the sea, cant remember if i intended it with this photo but it was something i had in mind at some point, think it was prob this photo but im not sure.... also am yet to use the 1/500 setting on my camera as i know sometimes the shutter can get in the way of the shot at a certain speed.
I think the glow compliments the theme of the photo, with one person sat alone watching it. if that makes any sense.
 |
workers f11 1/125 |
wish this photo was a little cleaner
 |
sea f16 1/125 |
more sea. another example of how sometimes the over exposed whites can work really well.. not too much and taking over other shapes and definition in the shot and the sea and stones around it are exposed nicely where you can see nice detail and texture. i think it also helps contribute to the motion of something - the sea in particular, as it adds some blur that could be perceived as movement.
 |
pigeons f11 1/125 |
ok. didnt wanna get any closer and scare them away. again like before has nice repetition with the seagulls.
maybe not perfectly in focus. not sure what happened to some images and the focus of landscape shots should be in focus, but they look shakey. I would assunme the focus is off here since ive been guessing, but its f11 so the range of focus would be pretty decent. also other aspects in the photo also look out of focus/blurry so no clue.
 |
metal f11 1/250 |
love the framing of this image and i am glad i chose to focus on the tubes rather than the sign in the foreground, as it adds a staggering to the image, where the fence in the very foreground is blurrier and it leads to the tubes etc in focus. I also like how you can see the digger in the background.
Additionally, I like the consistency of colour with the warm tones - the wooden sign, the metal, and the building works in the background.
 |
digger f11 1/250 |
This photo of the building works is a lot better than the other one, although i do like the workers in the other. The landscape frame gives nice room for everything, despite the digger not being really close, it has a plainer background, in a contrasting colour, which helps it stand out. i also like the yellow barriers dotted consistently across. Its a bit blown out at the bottom, but dont think thats much of a problem.
 |
bar f5.6 1/30 |
Superrrrrr happy with this. Was afraid it wasnt going to come out nicely, as my meter was saying to expose it 2ish stops more! Was also very risky shooting 1/30 of a second as it can be shakey, however i used the counter to stable it, which turned out to be a great addition to the photo as it has the bar mirrorred. This pic came out perfectly and im really happy with it, its in focus, despite the low f stop, and has nice layering. The glasses look clean and theres a glow of light on the metal which is v nice in my eyes.
 |
sea window f11 1/125 |
blaaah. inside vs outside
didnt write down settings for this, but was prob 16 250.
 |
buildings f11 1/250 |
boooo its wonky.. can probably straighten it though as its not too bad. Wanted to get this as i thought the layers of the buildings would look good as a photo, however i think it wouldve looks better closer, with less ground and less sky. and maybe it wouldve captured the height of it all.
 |
roof hole f11 1/125 |
niceeeeeeee. tried to meter for this, but with the contrast it was giving me a questionably low reading so i decided to just use what i thouught as i know how bright the sky can be and blow everything out. Came out pretty perf, can still see detail in the darker parts/on the roof which is a bonus for sure.
02SEPT
 |
pool 1 f16 1/250 |
the contrast is pretty low with this as the floor is a light colour so the sun loungers don't stand out too well. I think it could've been framed a bit better, but can possibly fix that with a crop - maybe the closest lounger can be more in the corner to give a focal direction to it and create the line of them all lined up across the photo stronger and to also get rid of some of the wasted space at the bottom.
Would've been nice to get a closer up photo over the top of the loungers i think too.
 |
pool 2 f16 1/250 |
this could've been better landscape i think... less sky and ground, and the chairs and other details would be more in focus visually.
 |
pool 3 f16 1/250 |
wanted to get the warp-y shapes of the pool in a photo... its ok but not phenomenal or anythin.. possibly a touch too over exposed... one stop might have made all the difference to help define the bit of pool in the lower left.
 |
pool 4 f16 1/250 |
wanted to get either the water or the bottom of the pool, think it came out ok. I quite like the edge of the pool cutting in at the top corner and the metal bars. I don't think it has a nice focal point to it... the gaze floats to that top corner and feels a bit wonky i think... I do however like the reflection in the water - its faint but comes out the more you look at it.
 |
sun loungers f16 1/250 |
nice framing i think. Too exposed though. Would have been good to take advantage of the sunlight on this trip and couldve shot a slower speed film, which is something I'd prob never be able to do in the UK haha. but i only had 200 unfortunately.
 |
bag contents f16 1/250 |
think i should take more photos of stuff like this.. the objects say a lot haha
-cant remember where this was but we went to another bit somewhere
 |
house & rocks f16 1/250 |
quite like this one, its unfortunate that the white building is blown out though.
The colouring is nice with the yellow and the blue and I like the layers this image has to it. The fast shutter speed suits the sea well i think as the white waves are nicely defined beside the rocks. Also if you look closely you can see someone sat on the rocks.
 |
desiree flying f/16 1/250 |
desiree said to take a photo so it looked like she was flying over the ocean so this is the outcome to that.
 |
B+C f16 1/250 |
shapes in this are nice. I like the arches and ive always liked them square holey diamondy bricks. I think a nice contrast to help define the walls as they go across the frame and the background has the pop of the blue with the tree trunks cutting it up vertically.
i am a bit sad that its slightly blown out, not because it looks bad as i think it doesnt ruin the image at all, but because it had something written on it which you cant really see.
 |
car f11 1/125 |
liked the car, think i should've gotten closer so it fills the frame more. That way the sky wouldn't have blown it out and the yellow building would've helped contrast the colour of the car more and make it stand out.
Despite that, I do like the yellow lines on the road, as they act as leading lines which drag the gaze to the car. It also adds some continuity to the photo as the lines are yellow along with the building. Perhaps I can crop the photo slightly and straighten it to make it nicer.
 |
swimmers f16 1/125 |
again nice photo, but there are some elements im unhappy with. THink less sky even though i like the rock shape if it was any less exposed other bits might be too dark. I like the people in the photo, but they are a little too bright to get much detail.
I also like the random leaf branch thing in the bottom left corner.
 |
beach people f16 1/125 |
really like this. the contrast of light and dark is cool and almost mirrors the sea shore line with its shape.
tbh there are a lot of lines in this image - the cliff, the sea, the wet sand, and then the shadow.
Would be cool to take more photos angled downwards like this as it has a nice feel to it. I also think that although you cant see a lot of detail of the people as theyre far away, its nice to see an array of people doing different things if that makes sense. The sun section is potentially too bright, however I dont think its ruins the photo - the shade has enough detail in the lower part of the frame, which is where most the focus is anyway i feel.
 |
sitting man f11 1/125 |
this is a cool pic i think. some nice small details with the people. I originally wanted to capture the guy sat on his own and then some other people walked past which i was ok with. I am liking the high angle, maybe ill try this more.
 |
chair f8 1/60 |
a shame that this is framed a bit weird, but i liked the chair. I think this would look better with a touch cropped from the top and a fair bit cropped from the bottom.
 |
stairs & pier f8 1/125 |
quite nice, there are elements that are v exposed n some a bit under, but i think i have a fair balance. would be nice for the sky to be less blown out and also more detail in the pier thing as there were some stairs there that would have made the photo more visually interesting i think. I am enjoying these photos of tiny people far away, as there isnt a lot of detail however a good amount of variety and interest at the same time if that makes sense.
 |
sitting backs f8 1/60

feel the same with this, liking the backs and details of the people. the contrast of different ppl doing different things or sitting differently even i think is nice.

i like this. not too interesting but a lot of nice simple elements. The grey and blue go nicely and the sky shows a lot of grain from the film which i kinda dont hate. I like the shape of the steps and bridge as it has a zig zag thing going on and sort of connects to the drain at the bottom of the frame. i also like the street lights as they kinda frame the image with one being at each side.

cant tell how i feel with this one. not hitting with me right, but there are elements i like. the over exposure on the waves works well i think, it gives it nice definition and a sort of drama eventho we sacrifice some detail.. the rocks at the bottom of the frame almost rework the framing giving it a jagged shape where the shaddows cut in

was trying to be sneaky. always feel creepy taking photos of ppl esp on a beach i feel can be a bit weird, but there were people above by the railings too which i wanted to capture. i also liked the built up ness of this framing while i was taking it - with the sea and rocks and the railings at the top. i think the people by the railings also give it a nice dimension and reality, mirroring with the woman in the sea. gives a nice reality to a scene/landscape.
again, the sky is blown out... could've really done with a less sensitive film, however i only had 200 rolls on me and i found a shop with film but they also only had 200 rolls. i did get a roll of fuji as dont think ive ever seen that film stock before so wanted to try it, which i used below.
