autumn 2024 // 35mm film // colourplus200 & portra400
the first roll is colourplus 200 in the camera i fixed - a yashica. it seems to be working fine, however when the roll is complete the release button gets stuck so i have to take my camera to the developing place and get them to do it in their dark box thing... might try fix it, but i think itll prob be some grease issue maybe idk. another thing is the focus image/mirror image has shifted a bit to the left i think so it is focusable but it can be difficult (it aligns up and down)
I had issues while scanning. Scanned them at the library after i got them but for some reason i didnt get them in my email, guessing i put the wrong email address maybe??? but i scanned them when i got home and only realised after that there was a mark on the scanner and it had already taken an hour as the scanner is slow, so i thought TOUGH lol so if theres marks anywhere its not on the image its from the scanner !:)
ROLL I
taken while walking from rock climbing
dont have much to say about this image. wish i'd gotten more detail of the car front. tried doing a closer shot in the next image but its not really in perfect focus unfortunately.despite this i quite like the composition. even though i kinda hate the empty space at the bottom of the frame, i think it adds some balance and perspective, making the subject almost central in the image and giving an awareness of the camera/photographer/pov.
additionally i like the glow of the traffic light in the bottom right corner. its not too harsh.
an ok photo, but not aesthetically stunned if u get me.
wanted to capture some mundane stuff to test this hence:
i like this oneeeeee, boring but it works !???
the sink kinda acts as a frame and then there are these little things dusted around it which i like
i also maybe think i couldtry getting a closer shot, so the shelves cut across the frame, however dont know how close ill be able to get with the cameras i have as i think they focus from 0.8 metres...
a frame in a frame - whats not to love ...
i like how yellow the indoor lighting came out and since its taken fromoutside, it has a very nosy essence....
as much as i feel off about these photos, in the sense as i dont think they'revery intersting, i do at times like them. I can't really make my mind up. they look shit but also the blur gives it a nice somethin,,,,,,,.
taken at Pub/club:
wine place:
taken with camera on the table. quite ok but not Stunning.quite insane bc i have No Idea HOW i took this photo.... its portrait not landscape so there was no flat surface to balance the camera on likeyou can on the bottomof it, but the car lights are dragged across... soooo idk. this one works A LOT better than the one above, not just bc of the lighting but also i think the focus works better on the wine bottles, aswe can still see enough detailsof the street, whereas the one above the wine bottles are not v in focus at all.
i love the way the car lights stop and start in specific points also and cut behind the bin. would like to shoot more reflection stuff.
pub across road:
another blurry one, but in this instance i think it works quite well.. the liquid in the glasses looks cosmi c-y,,,,, feel i should write more about this n go on about the composition etc but idk what to say othe than that i like it...ok i guess. tbf i do like the rectangle shape oflight created in the top left.
in the clubbbbbbbbb:
idk how this came out at all.did two random exposures in the club for 10 seconds ish i think... they turned out ok especially the one below which looks a lot better when i scanned it than it did printed. to get more light detail i think i could have put the f stop higher to get more dark contrast,as a lot is blown out n idk if im into that.
kaleidoscope esque
sat outside the coffee place round the corner (the same one i was sketching at the other week):
yes yessssssss yes....this truck was SO LOUD tho was very annoying but i guess i got a great pic so ,, win somelose some i suppose.?yummmm. cant beat a good chair photo tbh! reminds me of the photo i took in wales i think it was of the stacks of chairs?? also im obsessed with the paper-y looking sign behind the chair, its not paper but the creases and folds give it the same vibe i think. the sun really did something too i cant take all the credit cheers
stockport ! (think this was from when i went to get the shopping list zine mock up printed) :
meh
yeeeeppppp yep ! yeah !
really happy with how this one came out. it is looking a bit dingy but its not too bad.
i liked all the bags in front of the shop, and the shutters over the window add a nice touch too. also the two cars at either side, again, frame it nicely.
would,ve maybeliked a bit more space at the top where the cancer research sign is as the letters are just scraping the top of the frame?
the neutral tones of the paving stones contrast nice with the orange border around the shop and also thegreen in the bottomof the frame balances the image a bit more also.
i also likethe jaggedness of the stairs and the reflecitons in the windows. i think i like when photos have a lot of lines/angles within them as it created many shapes and structures and frames in the photo.
again, lots of shapes in this one too.
i like that i took some with people in, i like street/people photography but dont really want that to be my main thing and also be creepy.. evnetho it feels creepy sneakily taking pics of people anyway,..
on the balcony / 2nd floor bit where i took the previous photos there was a multistory car park, myfaveeeeeee, so i had to take some pics obviously
this one is a bit wonky, but can easily be straightened out.
took this because i liked the double 'doorway' - the door to the leftand then the stairs. Again like the others, lots of angular shapes.
i like the markings on the floor and the columns going across the image.
although i think i like the one above more, there are elements i like in this one, especially now looking at it more closely. the sections of light cut through the wall and although some of it is blown out, i think the glow of it is kinda nice.. i also like the mysteriousness of the fire exit/door at the very back.
like the previous, i liked the texture here. i dont know whats going on in the window to make it likethat - perhaps a stained sheet? it looks like bleach stains. i also like the faded sign and the remnants of a to let/sale sign.
could be exposed a bit more maybe and also straightened out.
i like old signs and also handwritten signs.
a photo i took holding camera up to the glass. didnt come out great as is underexposed, however i think it would work well if it was a part of a series as it captures the Vibe of the seemingly abandoned shop well, but on its own its a flop tbh.
ROLL II
portra 400 in regular cam... Might have been a little expired but didnt have box so idk
walk around park just round the corner. wanted to take some autumny photos
an ok photo. tree could've been centralised more and maybe could've got closer to cut out the shape of the tree and have the leaves fill the frame?
quite like this... contrast of the darkness and the pop of orange
huh
ok kinda a classic with the orange leaves tbh.
i do like that theres some sort of twisting motion to it?
the layout of this is nice. the houses n the skyscraper are a nice contrast. im also glad i managed to capture the texture of the sky and also the fact that a few rooms have their lights on.
on way back from car garagee
focus is wack. i think bc my ghost focus image isnt working on my camera and im guessing, which has been going well so far, has the problemthat is i accidentally move the focus ring as im taking the photo i wont realise, so ill try keep that in mind next time n see how it goes:)like the strips in this image created by the sun and shadows
this might be controversial, but i kinda like how new builds look.... the orange bricks in particular. i like the plants in this image and how the houses dont take over the entire show, with the huge plant in the garden along the fence and additionally the trees hanging in the right foreground. Also, i like how the houses give perspective to the garden plant as it looks huge
yum.
bar the other week
love both these two images that are long exposures with just the camera placed on the table.walk the other night.
i went on this walk with no tripod so the plan was to try long exposures by hand to see what effect id get and also to utilise table like objects i could find (walls, electrical boxes, etc)
found a wall so used it to take this. the fun thing about using flat surfaces was i didnt look through the viewfinder and just pointed them in a direction and let chance take its toll.i then decided to get this phone box in frame and used the same wall.
wanted to get a shot of the car (handheld) and somehow cut half of it out lolllll
darkk
actually happy with this. taken using a bus stop bench. the traffic on the other side was stopped at sometraffic lights, and i waited til cars fromthe other side came across and the effect turned out pretty nice, as i managed to get the stationary cars with these strips of light/stripes going across the frame.
didnt expect this to come out in focus tbh. didnt really have enough room and was trying to be quick.
used a railing, which u can see inthe photo. i was going to try get to the edge of the railing but there were weeedss and i was like whatever
took on some street boulder/barrier
used flat surface for this. had to try act normaland not weird while waiting for most the cars to get out the way as it was the shop i wanted in the shot. maybe i can crop it in a bit to make the shop more of the focus..
handheld.
thoughts...
would be interesting to do long exposures with controlled movement.. eg on a swing or skateboard... so rather than the things/cars moving in the image, the camera is moving
need to start writing down the settings i use,esp when most the roll is mostly made up of experiments
would like to get a light meter rather than using one on phone
most of the long exposures i just guessed on Vibes as i was just playing around anyway hahaha
like coloured lighting /led/bulbs in daylight
maybe should buy another camera where the focus works so i have less variables to worry about when trying new things heehe....
when i get a chance could maybe utilise double exposures to get some photos of solid and in focus things and also this painterly effect/smear of the lights?
want to takebetter photos consistenly, but i guess that will come with time, and i also dont wanna overthink taking photos... likewhen u buy something expensive n try save it for a special occasion andthen never use it.. better a few rubbish ones than no photos i guess......
christmas?
streets, highstreet? multistorey? new build streets, new build sites?
