Photo shoot Experiment

After evaluating the photos i took in wales, I decided to go out and take some more photos after the comments and thoughts i had.
Today i had an appointment in the centre, so i went to a multistory car park for half an hr beforehand at around midday.

was looking to play with shutter speed and ISO.
Finding textures.
landscapes with different details when u zoom in
long lens details.

When I was shooting, I couldnt really look at them after on the screen as the weather was misty rain, so looking at them when i got back was fun. Some turned out better than expected and some worse than I realised haha

Also was interesting to have a set time to do it in. A good limitation in a way, but also think i was finished by the time i had to leave anyway.
Was also Good to have the intention of taking photos and just be in a space with that intention and looking for stuff to photograph, as using taking photos i think is something that happens passively like when I was camping i was looking for stuff to photograph, but not in the same way i was today.

55mm | f/29 | 1/320 | 6400 ISO
I started with trying out a high ISO, as in my other post I thought about using a higher ISO to see the effect on already well lit spaces.
As I had the ISO so high, i had to wack up the f stop and shutter speed and it was still slightly over exposed.

Didn't really know what I wanted to photograph, so just started with the exit sign.

same settings as above

55mm | f/29 | 1/400 | 6400 ISO
I like how the image is split into the foreground and the background. The foreground being more blue and the background contrasts this with the orange bricks.

55mm | f/29 | 1/400 | 6400 ISO
liked the corner of the barriers and the colours in this as they look solid and bold, popping against the black barrier/wall.
The angle of the black fencing directs the eye to the centre of the image, creating a strong dimensional aspect to the photo.

55mm | f/29 | 1/400 | 3200 ISO
Turned down the ISO, as turning it down by one stop wouldnt fully destroy the effect/it would still be high at 3200 and it was exposed better.

I actually love the effect the high ISO has on these and gives a sort of softer, velvet-y look. also if you zoom in there are pixels/colours, so even though the grain gives a more analogue look, i think it still looks digitalised...
I think if i shot or edited it into black and white it would look more textured and film-like.
Not sure how i feel about the pixel-y bits though... I think on the bricks on the wall of windows, the colours really seem separate in a way? feel like im explaining this badly,..  theres like blotches of blue...

28mm | f/25 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO

These photos aren't that great to be Honest in my Opinion.
I do like the constrast between nature/the trees and the more urban building and metal fence.

36mm | f/29 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO

I like the shape the outline of the trees make.

36mm | f/29 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO
I took two photos like this,... one with the lamp post in and one without. I thought it would be interesting to see if the lamppost in the foreground would create more depth to the image, however I think i like it better without it in especially as the staggering buildings already have that layer effect.

Despite the exposure being annoying and having to choose to have the sky over exposed or the details of the image underexposed, I think i like, or have grown to like, the blow out effect from the overexposure. If i had access to an editing program I would see if i could tone it down a bit, but at times i think it adds an interesting effect to the back skyline, especially the crane that seems almost barely there and more impressionistic.

same settings as above
I think the buildings look kinda similar to layers of hills.
2 sky scrapers mirroring each other. One being finished and one being in progress.

I feel like these first few photos were just tests/me getting into it, as didnt wanna just take photos of the skyline hah and then started venturing/experimenting with other stuff and thinking about what i thought after analysing the other photos.

55mm | f/29 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO
There are three sections in this image; the trees, the middle buildings, and then the ones in the background.

Don't know if this is reaching a bit, but i like the way some of the windows are open as it gives a human presence to the image, despite there being no people in it.

55mm | f/29 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO
Wanted to try and capture the built upness of the buildings, see the less amount of sky i could include.

55mm | f/29 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO

I like the rigid shapes in this and how the buildings slice across and up into the sky.

The bottom third of the image is where everything grows from and most of the image is very vertical. I like how the lamp post contrasts with the building and adds a size reference compared to the buildings. Generally, the colours are pretty muted, except the yellow at the bottom which provides a nice contrast.

55mm | f/29 | 1/250 | 3200 ISO

I just photographed this as I thought it was funny how someone grafitti'd over the number.

Like the photos i took in wales, I like how the brightness has kinda mirrored the weather with the misty rain VIBE

55mm | f/36 | 1/25 | 400 ISO

55mm | f/36 | 1/13 | 400 ISO
Wanted to try a slower shutter speed while holding the camera to see what effect i could get.
This image has a very moody rainy vibe, Eyes are drawn to the crane and the bicycle wooshing by. The gray colour palette sets the other colours off.

55mm | f/36 | 1/13 | 400 ISO

55mm | f/36 | 1/13 | 400 ISO

55mm | f/16 | 1/60 | 400 ISO
I like the scene of this photo. I wanted to capture the orange jackets waiting outside the shop.

55mm | f/16 | 1/60 | 400 ISO
I like the symmetry in this image. The windows are balanced; outer ones open and the inner one open. I like the reflection that windows provide in images, creating a deeper dimension to it.

55mm | f/50 | 1/60 | 400 ISO
kinda out of focus, but could try using f stop next time to get back buildings fuzzier/faded and then the ones in the foreground CRISP

55mm | f/20 | 1/60 | 400 ISO

I thnik when shooting with my longer lens, I should try boost the shutter speed so its faster as its quite difficult to hold steady.

55mm | f/13 | 1/60 | 400 ISO

300mm | f/13 | 1/60 | 400 ISO
ok why the hell was i shooting at 1/60? anyway.

Blurryyy. Like the warped reflections in the windows though.

THis building looks like the squared paper you'd get given in maths
like the variation in blind openings

300mm | f/22 | 1/160 | 400 ISO
Like the similarity between the pointy tree coming from the bottom of the frame and the pointy roof coming over the lower roof.
The red and green look nice together.

300mm | f/22 | 1/160 | 400 ISO

blurryy

300mm | f/22 | 1/160 | 400 ISO
like the framing from the buildingss coming from the left and right pointing to the sky/back buildings. The colours are also v nice.

I like the variety of different angles in this image; the bricks tracking lines one way, the hole of the window facing the other, the actual glass of the window pointing the opposite direction. Also the window is in some embedded section in the wall with the grooves running up the image.

Both the see through quality and the reflection of the glass adds an additional layer to the image, and the lader inside adds a sneak of colour.

like this but bit over exposed.
The contrast in the two jackets is fun and the purple is cute - not a usualy colour for a building site?

Also like that somehow ive managed when taking pics to cover peoples faces subconsciously,, feel less of a creep.

Like this with the black hole'ness of the window. So deep and dark. wish hadnt cut the bottom corner of it off, perhaps there was a reason i did that idk.

Also the bricks are going the other way, so I think this was supposed to be a vertical image? but i like both ways, this horizontal way gives it a bit of an uncanny vib.e

Quite nice a frame within a frame. Think would cut a bit of the top off though to make it more ambiguous and more textural, less obvious that its a fence.

The focal point is the back, confimed space, which i think is unlike most other photos. Illuminated nook at the back of the photo. THe direction of the wall to the right also aids this as it points that way also.

thoughts for next shoot.
Think im going to go about where i live..
would like maybe to try get more details/objects with far lens.. Like an ashtray etc?
Take multiple photos of the same thing with different settings to see the effects/differences.

when using longer lens use faster shutter speed to get sharper imgs

After the next shoot, might get a roll of film and go on a shoot?

texture photos take with lower ISO? as dont really need the texture from the high ISO as it gives the actualy texture less detaillll....

conc.
like photos that are a whole scene. renaissance-y, where's waldo vibe. Loads of 'Characters'/ people. If ever had chance would print them really big so can see all the different stuff going on.

can use the f stop to get more stuff in focus. For example stuff i cant photograph straight on if its higher than me like the graffiti and then the whole thing will be in focus.

go out in evening maybe?

try using higher f stop to make images with a lot of depth Crisp
