PRO TOOLS: lesson one, initial thoughts & ideas
Deadline: 13th November
Brief: Choose a passage from a piece of text & create a 30-60 second soundscape to accompany the passage utilising diegetic/non-diegetic sound as a narrative.
48KHz sample rate
24 bit depth
Stereo WAV
Export 2 versions - 1 with voice over and 1 without.
Then I was thinking about narrative etc which brought 'The Gift' by Velvet Underground up which is an interesting take on a story/narrative format combined with sound/music.
Thinking more on the topic of language and words, I thought it would be good to think of the phonetic sound of the words and how they're combined with sounds. Eg: the amount of syllables, the harshness of syllables, alliteration, rhyming pattern, onomatopoeia.
This stage was very loose and just about the things that were initially brought to mind when thinking the brief over.

INITIAL IDEAS:
When thinking of texts, the first thing that came to mind was the book that I was currently reading called 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath. I made some notes on my phone on connections that appeared in my brain while thinking about this text. The Bell Jar is set in NY, which may include encompassing the atmosphere in the piece and other music piece that are heaily influenced by atmosphere that I thought of were Bowie's Berlin trilogy which was heavily influenced by the city at the time and Lou Reed's music which was heavily inspired by Lou Reed's New York surroundings. Then I was thinking about narrative etc which brought 'The Gift' by Velvet Underground up which is an interesting take on a story/narrative format combined with sound/music.
