Portrait Series Progression Update #2

Here are some notes of some quick ideas that I got. The art crime concept reminded me of the Grand Budapest Hotel, the painting in that film is stolen due to will arguments, and I didn't really gain any inspiration from it. I then thought to try more set up photos that look constructed to follow a previous idea I had to break the verisimilitude purposely to make the viewer aware that this is a constructed piece. When I shoot I think I'm going to try a variety of stuff, posed and natural.
I had an image in my head for the main portrait, after this, and realised that it was the image from the movie A Clockwork Orange.
So I could try out different things rather than going for a simple portrait/'mug shot' style.

Here are some notes I made on my computer, as they came to mind.
This lead me to think of other movies like 'Se7en' and 'Kill Your Darlings' that follow this similar theme, however I eventually felt these weren't inspiring to what I was doing.

I did research more onto Vincenzo Peruggia and art theft in general. Here is what I found:
Vincenzo Peruggia stole the Mona Lisa in 1911. Said he did it for patriotic reasons, but it is conspired that he did it for Eduardo de Valfierno, who wanted to sell copies and he couldn't do that if people knew where the Mona Lisa was.

Art theft is usually for the purpose of resale or for ransom and only a small % of stolen art is recovered. Stolen art can be difficult to sell after theft due to it being known it being stolen so ransom is usually more common.

I came across an art thief named John Tillman who stole for fun, bonnie and clyde style, and people have said he did it out of being intelligent and fun.

There are other art crimes outside of theft, one being vandalism to artwork.
This then reminded me of dada quote "the destruction of all art is art too please tear this up"

Ideas/Notes I came up with while researching:
maybe stolen as painter didnt want it commercialised as it was painted for a friend ?

instead of travelling the world stealing paintings, travel planes/parallel universes .
car doesnt exist - random number plate? - could possibly edit
character doesnt exist

art pirate kinda thing? vagabond (this came from Adam Ant and helped develop the idea of a rogue vagabond/pirate)

wait maybe forgery?? 2 of the same paintings found, dont know which is which

Research on some Flower meanings that could possibly work:
Chrysanthemum - (yellow) neglected love or sorrow, in some countries of Europe incurve chrysanthemums symbolise death

Camellia - loved by the victorians meaning "my destiny is in your hands"

Carnation - (yellow) disdain

Anemone - forsaken

black-eyed susans - justice

Peonies - Anger

  1. Your depth of research is well covered, i enjoy your exaggerated poses and think you managed to capture the silent expressionist look well in your replication of Cesare's make up.
